Suffolk 60 Care is comprised of motivated individuals committed to providing quality volunteerism by acting as a catalyst for community change while developing individual potential through leadership.

In fall 2004, three women met and set the foundation for Suffolk 60 Care. Their goal -- to create a community service organization to address the unmet needs of people in Suffolk, while offering women an organized way to volunteer and meet new friends. These three soon grew to 13, and after diligent, focused work and only a few months, they became a core group of 60 diverse women from all areas of the city.

Suffolk 60 Care brings the various borough communities together by building bridges of hope and enhance the lives of those in need. Their work takes them from the borders of north Suffolk to the outer edges of downtown and south Suffolk.

A nine-member Board of Directors, bringing an array of talent and expertise to the organization governs Suffolk 60 Care. Members are highly motivated and strive to be positive influences in the community. Each year they select and focus on one project area, the Signature Project, which is determined by a grants proposal process where organizations in need submit applications for Suffolk 60 Care members’ consideration. Members vote to award the moneys raised to organizations whose needs align with one or more of their objectives of improving:

- Diversity

- Education

- Poverty intervention

- Family preservation

- Health

Suffolk 60 Care focuses on these areas because they care about people living in Suffolk and want to assist organizations in need by volunteering and raising funds to donate to them. At the group’s only fundraising event, the annual gala hosted in February, one is sure to recognize some of the most dedicated individuals helping their communities improve and a Who's Who of Hampton Roads. By means of live and silent auctions with goods ranging from the practical to the exotic, fundraising has never been so elegant.
